Exploring the Philippines Through Data, Statistics, Geography, and Administrative Information
The Philippines is a nation of thousands of islands, hundreds of cities and municipalities, and tens of thousands of barangays. Behind every destination, province, city, and island lies a collection of statistics and administrative information that helps tell the story of the country.
Philippines by the Numbers serves as a central resource for exploring the Philippines through population statistics, administrative divisions, geographic information, rankings, comparisons, and reference materials.
Whether you are researching a province, planning a trip, studying Philippine geography, completing a school project, or simply curious about the country’s structure and development, this resource is designed to make information easier to find and understand.
Why This Page Exists
The origins of Philippines by the Numbers date back to around 2016, several years before Turista Sa Pilipinas was created.
What began as a search for detailed population and local government information quickly revealed a challenge familiar to many researchers: information about the Philippines was often scattered across multiple sources. Population statistics could be found in census publications, administrative information in government directories, geographic data in planning documents, and local details on provincial, city, and municipal websites.
No single source seemed to contain everything.
To better organize this information, spreadsheets were created and expanded over time. What started with population figures from the 2010 and 2015 census periods gradually grew into a larger collection covering the Philippines from the national level down to regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays.
Over the years, information was gathered from sources including:
- Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) publications
- PhilAtlas
- Wikipedia
- Provincial government websites
- City government websites
- Municipal government websites
- Community profiles
- Planning documents
- Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs)
- Other publicly available reference materials
As the collection grew, these spreadsheets became a valuable reference library for understanding the Philippines through data, geography, demographics, and administrative organization.
When Turista Sa Pilipinas launched in October 2023, years of collected research helped form the foundation for many of the informational and administrative resources found throughout the website.
Today, Philippines by the Numbers serves as a gateway to that ongoing collection of Philippine data.
Sources and Research Methodology
Information throughout this section has been collected and organized from publicly available sources over many years.
Major sources include:
- Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) census publications and statistical reports
- PhilAtlas
- Wikipedia
- Provincial Government Websites
- City Government Websites
- Municipal Government Websites
- Local Planning Documents
- Community Profiles
- Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs)
- Geographic and Administrative Reference Publications
Because information is often distributed across multiple sources, data may be cross-referenced and verified using multiple references whenever possible.
Some local governments publish extensive data, while others provide only limited information. As a result, the availability of specific statistics may vary between regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays.
As new information becomes available, datasets and pages will continue to be updated and expanded.

A Personal Note
Around 2016 or 2017, I began researching population statistics and administrative information about the Philippines. Like many people, I started with sources such as Wikipedia. While it was often useful, I quickly discovered that information was sometimes incomplete, outdated, or unavailable. Finding accurate answers often meant checking multiple sources and comparing information between them.
What began as a search for a few specific statistics eventually turned into a long-term project. Over the years, information was gathered from census reports, Philippine Statistics Authority publications, government websites, planning documents, community profiles, maps, and many other public sources.
Rather than repeatedly searching for the same information, I began organizing it into spreadsheets. Over time, those spreadsheets grew into a large collection covering the Philippines from the national level down to regions, provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays.
When Turista Sa Pilipinas launched in 2023, years of research became the foundation for many of the site’s informational resources, administrative hubs, and reference pages.
My goal with Philippines by the Numbers is simple: to make Philippine administrative, demographic, and geographic information easier to find, understand, and explore.
Whether you’re researching your hometown, planning a trip, studying the Philippines, or simply curious about how the country is organized, I hope this resource helps you find the information you’re looking for.
