Marinduque, an idyllic heart-shaped island province in the MIMAROPA Region of the Philippines and is nestled within the archipelago’s Luzon Island Group. Its provincial capital is the municipality of Boac.

Recognized for its lush, verdant landscapes and the crystal-clear waters of the Sibuyan Sea, Marinduque beckons with its serene beauty and rich cultural heritage.

One of the most significant traditions in Marinduque is the Moriones Festival, an annual religious event during Holy Week that reenacts the story of Saint Longinus, a Roman centurion. The festival is famous for its participants—called Moriones—who don intricate Roman soldier masks and costumes, parading through the streets in a colorful spectacle that attracts both local and international tourists.

The topography of Marinduque is dominated by rolling hills and mountains, with Mount Malindig, the highest peak on the island, offering panoramic views and attracting hikers and nature enthusiasts. The province’s agricultural lands are known for cultivating rice and coconut, which are essential to the local economy.

Marinduque’s coastline is dotted with pristine beaches and exceptional diving spots. One notable beach is Poctoy White Beach in Torrijos, which boasts powdery white sand and clear waters, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and water activities. The Tres Reyes Islands, a group of three small islands off the coast, provide some of the best diving experiences in the area, famed for their vibrant marine life and untouched coral reefs.

The Bathala Cave system is another natural wonder in Marinduque. It consists of a network of seven caves, some of which are sacred to local folklore and others that serve as home to thousands of swiftlets, whose nests are prized for bird’s nest soup.

Marinduque’s laid-back atmosphere is complemented by the warmth and hospitality of the Marinduqueños. The blend of its cultural festivities, natural attractions, and the tranquil rural landscape make Marinduque a distinctive and enchanting destination within the Philippine archipelago.
