The component city of Isabela is a vibrant and culturally rich destination that offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and economic potential. As the de facto provincial capital of Basilan province, it serves as a gateway to the Sulu Archipelago and is known for its diverse communities and scenic landscapes; this city has 45 barangays, a 2020 population of 130,379 people, and a land area of 223.73 sq. kilometers (86.38 sq. miles).

Isabela City’s origins trace back to 1848 when it was established as a Spanish garrison town named La Caldera. Over time, it evolved into a significant administrative and economic center in the region. The city has witnessed various historical events, including its role during the Spanish colonial period and its involvement in the 1972 Muslim rebellion in southern Mindanao.

Despite facing challenges such as a high poverty rate, with 40% of the population living below the poverty line, the city has made strides in improving its economic standing. In 2024, Isabela City was ranked the 14th Most Competitive Component City in Mindanao, reflecting its ongoing efforts to enhance competitiveness and economic development
