  • Originally known as Malihaw—named after local riverside trees—the town earned its current name from a miraculous story of rescue and devotion involving Nuestra Señora de las Victorias (Our Lady of Victory.
  • It became a component city in February 1998 with the signing of Republic Act No. 8488 and celebrated its first anniversary on March 21, 1999, marking the start of the annual Kadalag‑an Festival (“victory” in local dialect).

The Sugar Giant & Iconic Landmark

  • Home to the Victorias Milling Company, the world’s largest integrated sugar mill and refinery, spread across more than 7,000 hectares.
  • Within the mill compound lies the St. Joseph the Worker Chapel, famed for its bold, colorful “Angry Christ” mural painted by Alfonso Ossorio, and designed by Antonín Raymond—an outstanding example of modern sacred architecture in the Philippines. The chapel is an Important Cultural Property since December 2015.
